I agree with you about the need (and anticipated important role) of Non Player Characters and intelligent virtual agents, especially on the humor or entertainment part. There is an interesting development going on right now involving the creation of conversational, behavioral characters with a personality and a narrative, made for engaging and/or entertaining conversations.
